Pitt men’s soccer announces yet another rigorous schedule for 2026 season

The road back to the national stage is officially mapped out for the Pitt men’s soccer team.

The Panthers announced their highly anticipated 2026 fall schedule on Thursday, revealing a rigorous campaign that features a heavy dose of elite non-conference rivalries stacked alongside the always-brutal ACC gauntlet.

Head Coach Jay Vidovich, who had his contract extended through 2028 in the off-season, and his squad enter the season entirely eager to rebound and get right back into deep postseason contention after missing the NCAA tournament last year for the first time since 2018.

To spark that resurgence, Vidovich is expected to retain a strong, battle-tested nucleus with 13 players coming back from last year’s group including goalkeeper Jack Moxom, defender Niklas Soerensen, who was selected in the MLS Super draft but opted to return, local fixtures like Anders Bordoy and Alex Hauskrecht

As always — Vidovich and the staff were very busy entertaining transfer portal business and recruiting new players both domestically and abroad, so expect the rest of the roster to feature an influx of new talent brought in to meet the high standard that the longtime, successful Head Coach has instilled at Pitt.

August: Igniting Old Rivalries Early

The Panthers will shake off the summer rust with a pair of highly competitive exhibition matches, starting with a short trip south to face regional foes West Virginia on August 7, followed by a home friendly against George Mason on August 14.

Once the regular season officially kicks off, the schedule wastes absolutely no time testing Pitt’s mettle.

The Panthers open at Ambrose Urbanic Field on August 20 against traditional powerhouse Maryland, followed by a quick home turnaround against Bucknell on August 24.

They will cap off the opening month by heading to Happy Valley on August 28 for an in-state showdown against Penn State.

September: The ACC Gauntlet Begins

September begins with Pitt facing a third Big Ten opponent, another road test at Michigan State on September 3, before the Panthers return home to host Penn on September 7.

From there, the rigorous ACC campaign takes center stage.

Pitt welcomes conference newcomers SMU to Pittsburgh on September 11 for the ACC opener, briefly pauses conference play to host Cornell on September 15, and then flies out to the West Coast for a long-distance road match against Cal on September 20.

The month closes back home against Louisville on September 25.

October: Derby Days and High-Stakes Finishes

October brings zero let-up for the Panthers, beginning with an away match at Syracuse on October 2, followed by a home conference clash with Virginia Tech on October 9.

On October 13, local bragging rights will be on the line when Pitt hosts the Duquesne Dukes for the annual City Game derby match.

no rest for the weary after the derby, as the Panthers immediately welcome North Carolina to town on October 16, followed by a premier non-conference home finale against Georgetown on October 19.

The regular season wraps up with a pair of grueling road trips that will carry immense ACC and NCAA tournament seeding implications: at Boston College on October 23 and a massive finale at Virginia on October 30.
