RMU men’s soccer team dominated Canisius with five first-half goals to secure a 5-1 victory in their final non-conference match of the season. RMU improves to 5-3-1 on the 2024 campaign.
Logan Gilley and Chase Gilley once again led the way, as Chase scored twice and adding an assist, leading the team in points this season with five goals and one assist, while Logan contributed a goal and an assist, ranking second in team points (2g, 3a).
“We need to keep doing what we’ve been doing and understand the effort and intensity required to win Horizon League games,” Jonathan Potter, RMU’s Head Coach said after the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the 4th minute, Chase Gilley opened the scoring, assisted by Kyler Miller and Kosi Udeh.
Less than a minute later, Chase struck again with assists from his brother Logan Gilley and Miller once again.
Ely Sidibe pulled one back for Canisius in the 11th minute with an unassisted goal.
In the 22nd minute, Logan Gilley volleyed in a goal off a Tim Koczulap cross, extending RMU’s lead to 3-1.
“They’ve played together their whole lives, so they have a great understanding of each other,” Potter said of the Gilley brothers.
“They bring tons of energy to training, and it’s great to see them rewarded.”
John Paul Mbuthia made it 4-1 in the 38th minute, assisted by Chase Gilley and Pedro Amadou.
Just before halftime, Anass Hadran added the final goal after Amadou stole the ball and passed it off for a powerful finish.
RMU continued to press, recording nine more shots and four corner kicks. In the 76th minute, Miller came close to scoring but hit the woodwork.
No yellow or red cards were issued during the match.

- RMU outshot Canisius 19-9, including 10 shots on target compared to Canisius’ two. Both teams earned five corner kicks, but Canisius committed 17 fouls compared to
- RMU’s 13. RMU used 21 players, with William Dodzi Afawubo playing the full 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Josh Lane made one save, while Kieran Gorgenyi made his season debut, playing the final 23 minutes.
- Forwards Kyler Miller and Pedro Amadou both notched two assists in the match, their first career two-point efforts. Miller now has seven career points, while Amadou has three assists in his freshman season.
- This marks the first time RMU scored five goals in a half since their 5-0 victory in 2022 against Milwaukee, when Chase Gilley netted a hat trick and earned Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week honors

RMU has wrapped up its non-conference schedule and will now focus on Horizon League opponents, starting with a road match at Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, October 5 at 1:00 PM.
