USL W-League Match Box Score

Steel City FC women’s team battled a familiar foe, FC Buffalo, in a back-and-forth affair that saw four second half goals, ending in 2-2 draw, at Founders Field in Indianola on Tuesday night, to remain unbeaten in USL’s W-League Great Forest Division.

Co-captain Emily Graeca scored in the 90th minute, while Marissa Salisbury scored in the 57th minute, as Steel City responded with equalizers each time they fell behind.

“Buffalo has always been a good matchup. We’ve closed the gap every year and I felt from the game and looking at the stats, we are now dominating the ball against this team,” Tom Ovenden told Pittsburgh Soccer Now following the match.

“All that said they made it hard for us to play our game and did really well off the ball. And we’re organizing. We had moments and chances that our energy was low, which is kind of expected in the sprint of a season that we’re in.”

With the result, Steel City (2W-0L-1D, 7 points) pulls into a tie for first place in the Great Forest Division with the other W-League club in the Pittsburgh area, Riveters SC.

Next up, Steel City will face Erie Sports Center, on Saturday at 6 p.m. as the second part of a double header with the organization’s Men’s first team, who are also hosting Erie in a USL League Two match.  Both matches will be played at Founders Field.
