Pulse of Pittsburgh Soccer: Hounds-Riveters crossover Saturday, plus Steel City women look to keep pace

It’s a busy Saturday on the Pittsburgh soccer schedule, with four teams in action including the Riverhounds and Riveters keeping their communications team busy, with games being played simultaniously.

The Riverhounds (4W-6L-2D, 14 points) return home to begin the club’s longest stretch of matches this season at Highmark Stadium, when they take on the usually formidable Tampa Bay Rowdies.  Up in Western New York, the Riveters play its last regular season road match, taking on second place FC Buffalo.

The Rivs are red hot and playing in excellent form, having won three straight matches by 13-1 margin, including a 3-0 defeat of FC Buffalo, at Highmark Stadium on June 8.

Meanwhile, coming off a disappointing and weather-shortened 0-0 draw at Cleveland on Wednesday, Steel City FC women are in need of a result and all three points when they face Flower City 1872 at Founders Field.

Steel City FC men are not back in action until Wednesday, but holding onto the top spot in the USL League Two’s Great Forest Division, they’ll face a critical showdown with second place FC Buffalo.

On Friday, the Riveters and Steel City FC will meet again in the rematch.  Riveters won the first match, 3-1, at Founders Field on June 11.
