When it comes to the top female players in Western Pennsyvlania, earning recognition to be nominated for the Moe Rosensteel Most Outstanding Player Award for the most outstanding player in WPIAL girls soccer can be quite an honor.
On Monday, coinciding with the start of High School soccer season practices, the Moe Rosensteel Foundation announced this year’s Players to Watch List, which includes 32 players.
The way it works is the finalists for the Award — usually three or four student-athletes — will be named during the WPIAL playoffs (mid-to-late October), with the winner announced shortly after the PIAA championships (mid-November).
Last year’s winner, Molly Kubistek of Peters Township, who is a Cincinnati commit and the first goalkeeper to win the award, is returning for her senior season.
Kubistek will try to become the first two-time winner.
The list of honorees includes:
2019- Ellie Coffield (Mars)
2020 Sarah Schupansky (North Allegheny)
2021 Kelsey Salopek (Steel Valley)
2022 Hailey Longwell (Moon)
2023 Lola Abraham (Riverview)
Two other girls on the watch list also were finalists last year: Morgan Gesinski of Mt. Pleasant and Emily McKee of Fox Chapel.
