Pittsburgh is a Soccer Town: Passion, civic pride on full display as Riverhounds set to play in first-ever league final

It’s been building over the past few weeks through a successful postseason run, but judging from the reaction to the Riverhounds SC clinching a first-ever berth in the USL Championship Final to be played in Tulsa, OK, the Pittsburgh soccer community and the growing fan base’s excitement and passion has been on full display leading up to Saturday’s kickoff (Noon kickoff on CBS).

If the past few weeks haven’t already proven this — but it’s clear — Pittsburgh IS a Soccer Town.

After Saturday’s win with an overflow crowd of 6,745 fans behind them, Riverhounds SC goalkeeper Eric Dick was sure to give a lot of credit to the team’s support.

“I’ve said this a lot, but I’ve been in a lot of stadiums in my career, and nights like this don’t happen very often,” Eric Dick, Riverhounds goalkeeper said.

“The fans tonight made this an amazing night. I can’t say thank you enough. In a dogfight of game like that, we know there’s going to be ups and downs and the fans are never going to stop.  They kept us going the entire game. We felt their encouragement. We are so grateful for it. I hope these guys don’t take it for granted playing in an amazing stadium like this.”

Over the years, on occasion, Pittsburgh Soccer Now has posted Social Media reaction after Riverhounds’ matches.
