High school teams begin their season Friday setting their sights on Highmark Stadium, where the WPIAL finals will be played again this year.

In Western Pennsylvania, soccer season will officially kickoff on Friday, as a handful of boys and girls high school teams get their seasons going with non-section and preseason tournament action.
In the spotlight on the boys side will be a trio of Western PA teams hosting the East-West Classic at Highmark Stadium. Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair will take on fellow AAA opponents Fleetwood and Wilson, while Quaker Valley faces Exeter Township.
It will mark the high school coaching debut of former Pittsburgh Riverhounds defender Andrew Marshall as he takes over the Quakers after Gene Klein retired in the offseason.
On the girls side, we’ll be seeing some good neighboring school rivalries renewed including the battle for bragging rights between Fox Chapel at Shady Side Academy, Allegheny Valley foes — Freeport at St. Joseph, and East-End schools — Obama Academy and Ellis School.
The full-slate of Friday games is listed below.
Pittsburgh Soccer Report plans on covering a featured High School Game of the Week in the early part of the season — and will announce those games in the next few days.
