GIRLS

SEMIFINALS

4A

No. 1 Norwin vs No. 4 Fox Chapel – 5 p.m. at Mars
This is a great match up filled with many Division I-bound players.  Norwin will look to return to the WPIAL finals, while Fox Chapel, who upset Canon McMillan last year in the quarterfinals, will look for the upset.
No. 2 Canon-McMillan vs No. 11 Mt. Lebanon – 5 p.m. at Baldwin
Mt. Lebanon have pulled off impressive three-goal outputs in each of the first two playoff wins over higher seeded teams (Plum and Penn-Trafford), while Canon-Mac, who like Norwin, are unbeaten, will have to get past a section rival that they beat twice this season to make it to the WPIAL Final next week at Highmark Stadium.

3A

No. 1 Moon vs No. 12 Ambridge – 4 p.m. at West Allegheny
Moon edged Thomas Jefferson 2-1 on Thursday, while the Bridgers have been the surprise team of the WPIAL girls tournaments, knocking off Franklin Regional, then defending Class AA champs Mars on Wednesday.
No. 2 South Park vs No. 6 Montour – 5 p.m. at Peters Twp
South Park will look to return to the WPIAL finals for the second straight season, while Montour, the 2014 WPIAL champs, are looking strong after a 5-0 win over South Fayette on Thursday.

2A

No 1 Freedom vs No. 4 Highlands – 5 p.m. at North Allegheny
Freedom girls, unlike the boys, are not a surprise here, as they’ve advanced on Thursday after a first round bye, with a narrow 1-0 win over a pesky Avonworth team.  They will now take on one of the hottest teams in the WPIAL, Highlands, who squeaked out a 1-0 win over Valley in the quarters.
No. 2 Freeport vs No. 3 Waynesburg – 4 p.m. at Elizabeth Forward
Freeport made its first playoff appearance since 2009, with an impressive 3-0 win over a young, but talented Yough team.  Now they will take on the undefeated Waynesburg girls who’ve won its first playoff game in school history with a 1-0 win over Charleroi.

1A

No. 1 Greensburg Central Catholic vs  No 4 Vincentian – 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Forward
GCC continue to roll on — as Bailey Cartwright has scored seven goals in two easy victories in the first two rounds.   Vincentian may be a confident bunch heading into this one, as they are coming off a 4-1 win vs OLSH.
No. 2 Bentworth vs No. 3 Shady Side Academy – 1 p.m. at Peters Twp.
Bentworth has shown that 17-1 regular season was no fluke, as they’ve racked up wins vs North Cathlolic and South Side Beaver.  Shady Side have been looking every bit as a team that might be the best to challenge GCC’s supremacy in 1A, beating Carlynton and Bishop Canevin by a combined score of 13-0.
3RD PLACE/PIAA Play-In Games – Wednesday, Nov. 2
WPIAL FINALS – Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-5 – Highmark Stadium
PIAA Playoffs – Nov. 8-19
