Youth Soccer Tryout Season is underway

It’s that time of year when school bags become filled with projects to bring home and thoughts turn to summer for the youngsters of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. For youth soccer players, it’s also the time of year when every aspiring competitive footballer from U8 to U18 heads out to tryouts to put on the proverbial ‘sorting hat’ of youth soccer. Coaches will drill and observe boys and girls, trying to build their best XI and assign the right kids to the right levels. Parents, meanwhile, will stand off to the sidelines, chewing their fingernails to the nub.

Pittsburgh Soccer Now provides you with a list of some of the tryouts for competitive ‘travel’ teams in the Pittsburgh metro area. Additionally, if you’d like to find out more about the outlook and philosophy of some of the local football clubs, check out some of the articles below that we’ve done as part of our ‘Youth Soccer Spotlight’.

Note that there are dozens of clubs across Western Pennsylvania. If you are new to youth soccer and want to find a club in your area for either recreational or competitive youth soccer, check the PA West website at http://www.pawest-soccer.org/ . Under the dropdown menu for ‘Youth’, click ‘Districts’, and find a club that’s close to you.

For a more competitive level of soccer, click ‘Classics’ and look for the club in the age range for your son or daughter by clicking ‘Schedule and Results’ under divisions 1, 2, or 3. Division 1 is the most competitive while Division 5 is the lowest competitive/travel level; recreational soccer is played within a given club and is not rated by division.
