Duquesne men’s soccer, which returns seven starters from last year’s Atlantic 10 semifinal team, will open the season at James Madison on August 24 as part of the 2023 schedule released today.

DU will also play at Virginia Tech (Aug. 27), at Pitt (Oct. 17) and will host Xavier (Sept. 19) in nonconference games.

The Dukes, in their 11th season under head coach Chase Brooks, will follow their back-to-back season opening games in Virginia with the home opener vs. Bowling Green on Aug. 31.

DU will host Wright State on Sept. 5, before heading to New York to face Niagara on Sept. 9.

Duquesne returns home to face cross-town rival Robert Morris (Sept. 13), Massachusetts (Sept. 16) and Xavier (Sept. 19) in succession. The UMass game, set for a 7:00 p.m. start, is not only the Atlantic 10 opener, but also Alumni Weekend. Xavier, which finished last season with a 42 RPI, is back on the schedule for the first time since 2012, when the Musketeers were members of the A-10.

The Dukes have conference road games at Loyola Chicago (Sept. 23), Saint Joseph’s (Sept. 30) and Davidson (Oct. 4) prior to returning to Rooney Field to face George Mason on Oct. 7.

DU will travel to Olean, N.Y. to face St. Bonaventure in a non-conference game on Oct. 11, before returning home to take on George Washington on Oct. 14.

Crosstown rivals Pitt, a College Cup semifinalist in 2022, hosts the Dukes on Oct. 17.

Duquesne completes the regular season with conference games at Fordham (Oct. 21) and at home versus La Salle (Oct. 28).

Six of the Dukes’ final nine games will be on the road.

The top eight regular-season finishers will compete at the Atlantic 10 Championship with opening round games at the sites of the top four finishers on Nov. 3 & 4. The championship will conclude with semifinal and final games on the campus of the team with the highest remaining seed on Nov. 8 & 12.

Duquesne will play a trio of exhibition matches prior to the season: vs. Saint Francis U (Aug. 13) vs. Detroit Mercy (Aug. 16) and at Virginia (Aug. 19).

  • The Dukes will play nine non-conference and eight Atlantic 10 Conference games as part of the 17-game schedule. The Oct. 11 game at St. Bonaventure will not count as an Atlantic 10 contest (it will be a non-conference meeting).
  • Duquesne will play eight matches at home and nine on the road. Seven of the eight home games will start at 7:00 p.m. with the lone exception being the Tues., Sept. 19 game vs. Xavier which will start at 1:00 p.m.
  • DU will face members of six conferences – including Power 5 members Virginia Tech and Pitt – in non-league play: Bowling Green (Mid-American), James Madison (Sun Belt), Niagara (Metro Atlantic Athletic), Pitt & Virginia Tech (Atlantic Coast), Robert Morris & Wright State (Horizon) and Xavier (Big East).
  • The 14-team Atlantic 10 will maintain an eight-game schedule. The top eight teams will qualify for the Atlantic 10 Championship with first round games at the campus site of the highest seed on Nov. 3 & 4, with the highest remaining seed hosting the semifinal and final on Nov. 8 & 12.
