Father’s Day weekend is upon us, which also includes a pretty full slate of soccer action on the Pittsburgh soccer landscape.
The Pittsburgh soccer scene is filled with many wonderful fathers and while I can’t cover everyone, I would like to extend a very Happy Father’s Day to all those ‘Soccer Dads’ out there!
This should be fun weekend of soccer both locally, but also on the international front, as the Euros have kicked off so that should add some extra fun to the weekend being that there will be Friday’s kickoff match (Germany vs Scotland, 3 p.m. ET), then starts the gluttony of three matches each day. For your convenience, we’ve included the Euros schedule below, in addition to our usual local soccer slate.
The weekend kicks off for the local clubs on Friday with Steel City FC taking a longer-than-usual road trip to the Hoosier State, as they take on Southern Indiana Guardians, who are in their first season in Great Lakes Conference. Steel City (5w-0l-1d, 16 points) remain unbeaten, following its impressive 2-0 defeat of Cleveland FC, as they seized the top spot in the NPSL’s Great Lakes Conference, as they handed Cleveland (3-1-0, 9 points) its first loss of the season.
IT'S GAMEDAY!!!

The Riverhounds also are on the road, as they head to Hartford (Saturday, 7:30 p.m. kickoff) to take on a squad with a few familiar faces, including one player from last year’s Players Shield winning squad, Joey Farrell. The Hounds are seeing to snap a five match winless streak, as they’ve gone 0w-2l-3d in their last five matches. Look for a more extensive preview of that match to drop late Friday or early Saturday.
Both area women’s teams will be in action on Sunday.
Beadling SC (3w-2l-1d, 10 pts), currently sitting in first place in WPSL’s East Great Lakes Conference, will face second place Columbus (8 pts) on the road in a critical match in the league standings. Beadling will be looking to bounce back from 3-0 road loss to Cleveland.
Steel City FC’s women’s team will cap the weekend when they take on Flower City Union at Founders Field, at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
