Pulse of Pittsburgh Soccer: Men’s college and high school seasons are off and running this week

Last week, women’s college season kicked off.

Now, this week, men’s college teams and the High School seasons will get off and running.

We have the complete Pittsburgh Soccer schedule for the week ahead below, as the Riverhounds will also be in action, on Saturday night in Birmingham, as their backs are against the wall, reaching a point of desperation following three straight draws, as they now are five points behind the playoff line with just nine matches to go.  PSN’s Colton Coreschi had more from Head Coach Bob Lilley, midfielder Jackson Walti and defender Sean Suber, following Saturday’s wild 2-2 draw.

On Thursday, all three men’s NCAA Division I teams will be getting their seasons started, each with home matches.

Pitt will be hosting Georgetown at Ambrose Urbanic Field (8 p.m.) as part of a doubleheader with their women’s team, while Duquesne and Robert Morris, kick off a bit earlier, as the Colonials host Bucknell at 4 p.m. and Duquesne hosts Seton Hill at 7 p.m.

Look for previews to come on all three programs, as Griffin Floyd will be taking on Pitt men’s soccer beat this season and Zac Weiss will have Duquesne covered, plus a RMU feature is coming too.

As we have the previous two years, Pittsburgh Soccer Now will begin its coverage of high school soccer with exclusive coverage of the JRK Memorial Classic, boys opening weekend tournament hosted by Pine-Richland High School.  The weekend will start with two matches on Friday, with PSN’s Matt Popchock on hand to cover a very good cross-classification match-up, between Pine-Richland and Moon.

There are tons of other great matches over the weekend at Pine-Richland (see full schedule of varsity matches below), plus we’ll be keeping tabs on some of the other season opening weekend tournaments, including the South Hills Classic (Girls tournament hosted by South Park) and Moe Rosensteel Memorial Kickoff Classic.

Look for more high school content to come over the next few days, including our first edition of WPIAL Notebook, a new episode of the Kids on the Pitch podcast, and our coverage schedule of the JRK Memorial Classic.
