Pittsburgh Soccer Now’s Matt Popchock brought the live broadcast of Moon vs Pine-Richland, as the Tigers rolled to a 4-0 win.

WPIAL Soccer Watch (Friday August 23)

Today marks the official start of the high school soccer season across the district in WPIAL Soccer, as both boys and girls non-section matches and opening weekend classics and tournaments will get things going.

For the 2024 High School soccer season, we will be using this forum to provide updates, scores, highlights, share your tweets and more from each day of action across the district.

WPIAL Soccer Notebook: Key things to know as 2024 high school season begins

The Pittsburgh Soccer Now team will be providing coverage of this weekend’s JRK Classic hosted by Pine-Richland, which has brought together 10 boys teams, including 8 WPIAL schools and another two non-WPIAL schools (Wheeling Park and Kiski School).

Friday features two matches at the JRK Memorial Classic, with defending WPIAL Class 4A Boys runner-up, North Allegheny taking on Wheeling Park at the Ram Cage, at 6:15 p.m.

Then, at 8 p.m., at the Stadium, the host team, Pine-Richland, will host Moon in a Class 4A vs Class 3A match-up.  PSN’s Matt Popchock will have the call, which you can catch on PSN’s YouTube Channel.

 

WPIAL Soccer Schedule (Friday, August 23, 2024)

John Krysinsky has covered soccer and other sports for many years for various publications and media outlets. He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
