WPIAL Boys Soccer Preview (8/31/2024)

It’s a fairly light schedule on this second Saturday of the WPIAL boys soccer season, with a few tournament and non-conference matches that dominate the slate.

PSN’s Saturday Boys Match to Watch…

Avonworth (2A) vs Moon (3A) — One of the most interesting contests take place at the Avonworth tournament, as Moon, who have started off the season with a 3-0 record, including two wins at the JRK Memorial Classic last weekend (beating Winchester Thurston and Pine-Richland) and earning their first section win (8-0 vs Baldwin) will complete their tour of all Classifications by taking on Class 2A Avonworth as they’ll venture across the Ohio River and ‘up’ Camp Horne Road to face the undefeated, talented ‘Lopes. Avonworth kicked off its season this week, getting right into section play, dominating Riverside, 12-0, then turning some heads with an impressive 3-0 win vs defending section champs and WPIAL runner-up, Quaker Valley.  In the win vs Quaker Valley, senior Abdul Basit came through with a hat trick to lead the way. This should be a good match between two talented teams that are off to great starts this season.
