Robert Morris women’s soccer turns up intensity to take down Purdue Fort-Wayne, 2-0

Two second-half goals propelled the RMU women’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne.

With the win, the Colonials improve to a 3-4-3 overall record and 2-1-0 in Horizon League play.

“I’m proud of how we maintained our intensity after the first goal. We pushed for more, which show this team is hungry,” Michelle Rick, RMU Head Coach, said.

“Today we delivered a complete 90-minute performance, and the result reflects that.”

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams shared opportunities early, with each recording four shots in the first 30 minutes.

Julia Becerra and Madison Hurst were both issued yellow cards in the 36th and 39th minutes, respectively.

The final 15 minutes of the half saw no shots from either side.

RMU broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Paloma Swankler made a run down the right wing and crossed the ball into the box for Ava Trethewey, who finished for her first career goal.

In the 65th minute, Purdue Fort Wayne’s Malia Velker received a yellow card.

Minutes later, a handball in the box awarded RMU a penalty kick. Haleigh Finale calmly converted to give the Colonials a 2-0 lead.
