Photo Gallery and Post Match Reaction: Following a whirlwind 24 hours, Riverhounds outlast Indy in Rob Vincent’s debut at the helm

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds took care of business, with acting Head Coach Rob Vincent guiding the way in his debut at the helm, in beating Indy Eleven, 2-1, to secure the club’s eighth straight playoff berth.

It was certainly a strange sight to see on some level, as longtime Head Coach Bob Lilley wasn’t patrolling the sidelines for the first time in eight seasons, following the club’s announcement on Friday night that he was put on administrative leave.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind to be honest,” Vincent said after the match.

“Obviously, it was after training yesterday. We got the guys together on a call last night and explained the situation and how things were going to work today. We tried to make it the terms of business as usual.”

PSN’s Ed Thompson was at Highmark Stadium to capture the action and La Mega Media’s Amadeo Eichberg was on hand for the post-match press conference, where we have more to share below both of the action and quotes.

Danny Griffin Post Match – ‘He’s my coach. He knows I have his back. He has my full support’

What have the last 24 been like, and playing without the only coach he’s ever known in Pittsburgh…

“Obviously, we were surprised,” Griffin said.

“(Lilley) knows I have his back. He’s my coach. He knows I have his back. He has my full support.”

On scoring his fifth goal of the season…

“A lot of times I run to the box and try to free myself to pick up a second shot, whether it’s a knockdown like the one in Charleston,” Griffin said.

“Augi played a great ball on the cross and I threw my body at it.”
