Pitt men’s soccer knocked out of ACC tournament by Cal

ACC Men’s Soccer Tournament – Quarterfinal

Cal 1, Pitt 0

Match Stats

Pitt men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 12 seed California on Sunday afternoon in the ACC quarterfinals at Edwards Stadium.

With this result, Pitt (6-7-5 overall), saw its faint NCAA tournament hopes evaporated.  As a result, this will be the first time Pitt will miss the NCAA tournament since 2018.

The Golden Bears broke through in the 35th minute when Beau Morrison capitalized on a cross from Gaku Nishimura and Cam Wilkerson to notch the game’s lone goal.

Playing from behind for the majority of the match, Pitt outshot Cal 14-11 on the day, also holding a 61 percent advantage in possession. The Panthers earned four corner kicks to the Bears’ six.

Lasse Dahl led the Pitt attack with three shots on goal, while Tomas Bedouret added four total attempts and one on frame. Goalkeeper Jack Moxom turned away six shots in the effort to keep the game close.

The Panthers pressed late, generating seven second-half shots and forcing two saves from Cal’s keeper, but were unable to find the equalizer before the final whistle.
