The City of Pittsburgh held a celebration honoring the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at the City-County Building on Grant Street on Thursday afternoon.
Pittsburgh Soccer Now photographer, Ed Thompson was on hand to capture the festivities, as dignitaries, including Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato; Riverhounds President Jeff Garner, Sen. Wayne Fontana, D-Brookline, Rep. Daniel J. Deasy, D-Westwood, Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith, D-West End — were on hand to pay homage to the newest edition to the City of Champions.
KDKA-TV’s Bob Pompeani served as the Master of Ceremonies.
“They (Riverhounds) now share in the Pittsburgh title legacy of being part of the city of champions,” Fontana said.
In addition, the players who remained in Pittsburgh along with club staff, including acting Head Coach Rob Vincent had an opportunity savor the moment along with fans who braved the cold weather to mark the occasion.
“We as players and staff definitely need you there and we definitely hear you, particularly in the home games so it’s great you are always there to support us.”

“I’m just so happy we were able to bring a championship to Pittsburgh,” Vincent said. “We as players and staff, we definitely need [the fans] … you keep us going.”
Danny Griffin, who’s been the team’s captain the past two seasons and with the club for the most part since 2020, was elated and grateful to be part of the celebration and his adopted hometown.
“Being from Boston, I used to think we were the title town,” Griffin said.
“But being in Pittsburgh for six years, I have to say it’s the ‘City of Champions’ here!”

Several city, county and state officials provided declarations to the team, including City Councilors Bobby Wilson and Theresa Kail Smith, who declared Dec. 4, 2025 “Pittsburgh Riverhounds Soccer Club Day”.
