WPIAL / PIAA Boys Soccer Daily Report: Seneca Valley tops Fox Chapel in 4A Final rematch; early draws highlight new PIAA tie rules

Tuesday officially opened section play for select Class 3A, 2A, and 1A programs across the WPIAL, while a slate of high-profile non-conference battles highlighted the start of September.

In the biggest result of the night—a rematch of last year’s WPIAL Class 4A Final—Seneca Valley picked up right where it left off after a strong weekend showing at the JRK Memorial Classic. The Raiders showed off their massive firepower against the two-time defending champion Fox Chapel, earning an impressive 4-1 victory.

A New Era: No Extra Time in Regular Season

One of the defining storylines of opening week continues to be the impact of the new PIAA regular-season rule change: no extra time. Tuesday night saw five matches end in a draw after 80 minutes of regulation play (Kiski Area/Armstrong 1-1, Riverside/Beaver 1-1, South Park/Charleroi 3-3, Brentwood/Chartiers-Houston 2-2, and Riverview/Trinity Christian 1-1), along with non-conference deadlocks including Deer Lakes/Mars (1-1) and Mt. Lebanon/Norwin (3-3).
