WPIAL / PIAA GIrls Soccer Daily Report (Sept 2): Franklin Regional nets 1st section win; West Allegheny, Bethel Park & Montour victories highlight Wednesday results

Wednesday night brought another action-packed slate of high school girls soccer across Western Pennsylvania, with several teams earning critical early-season section and non-conference statement wins.

Mother nature did make a late appearance, however, as lightning and scattered thunderstorms moved into parts of the region later in the evening. While most matches were able to go the distance, a few contests were cut short or suspended before full time—most notably a high-profile non-section battle between Upper St. Clair and Norwin that was locked in a 2-2 dead-heat when the weather rolled in.

Before the rain, we also had a fantastic moment on the collegiate stage featuring local talent!

How times have changed! It’s really something to see how far we’ve come from high school athletic offices and coaches calling in box scores to local newspaper desks late at night.
