📌 Match Preview Capsules (Tuesday, Nov. 3)

Boys Class 4A Semifinals — At Chartiers Valley HS

  • #2 Seneca Valley vs. #6 Fox Chapel — 6:00 PM

    • The Breakdown: This rematch of last year’s thrilling WPIAL 4A Championship game (which went to PKs) as the Foxes took their second straight District title! No. 2 Seneca Valley (15-1) advanced past Pine-Richland 2-1 behind a two-goal performance from Zach White. Meanwhile, Erik Ingram’s postseason-tested Fox Chapel squad (12-4) went on the road to knock out No. 3 Peters Township 2-1 in extra time on a golden winner from All-State / All-WPIAL standout Paulie Fitzsimmons.

    • The Intel: This marks the fifth meeting between these rivals over the last two seasons as Seneca Valley made a strong statement earlier in the season, with a 4-1 win against Fox Chapel. This is typically a clash of styles between a Fox Chapel team that likes to possess against a Seneca Valley team that will look to counter and play quickly in transition.  With a spot at F.N.B. Stadium on the line.

  • #1 Norwin vs. #5 North Allegheny — 8:00 PM

    • The Breakdown: Top-seeded Norwin (16-0-1) punched its semifinal ticket by surviving a gritty, defensive battle against Upper St. Clair, ultimately prevailing 2-1 in a stress-filled penalty-kick shootout where keeper Reed Hoyle made two massive saves and Logan Plichta buried the winner. Standing in their way is a surging North Allegheny side (11-3-3) that put on a defensive masterclass in a 3-0 clean sheet over Mt. Lebanon.

    • The Intel: Norwin coach Carter Breen noted that his squad had to adjust to a slower, more deliberate style against USC, but the Knights’ training under pressure paid off. Now, they must figure out Manuel Montaro’s disciplined Tigers.  These teams were supposed to play earlier in the season, but that match was postponed.  Now, they finally get a chance to face off — but this time in a high-stakes match.

Boys Class 2A Semifinals

  • #13 Ambridge vs. #9 Quaker Valley — 7:00 PM @ Montour HS

    • The Breakdown: It’s been absolute chaos in the 2A bracket! No. 13 Ambridge (15-4-2) continued its miraculous postseason Cinderella run with a 2-1 win over South Park behind goals from Aaron Scheib and Owen Hammond. They will square off against No. 9 Quaker Valley (12-5-2), which pulled off the shocker of the tournament by knocking off section rival and top-seeded Avonworth 1-0 in the second period of extra time on Charlie Pyle’s sensational 19-yard free kick.

    • The Intel: Ironically, while only a few miles separated along Routh 65 — the two schools are not in the same section this year.  With both teams securing automatic PIAA state berths in the quarterfinals, the pressure shifts entirely to who can keep their fairy-tale run going all the way to F.N.B. Stadium. While

  • #3 North Catholic vs. #10 Belle Vernon — 8:00 PM @ Peters Township MS

    • The Breakdown: No. 3 North Catholic (17-1-2) made a statement in the quarterfinals with a 3-0 clean sheet over Shady Side Academy, backed by a brace from Jake Olkowski and a shutout by Logan Mueser. They face a red-hot Belle Vernon squad (16-1-2) that stunned No. 2 Deer Lakes 2-1 in extra time on Chris Showman’s golden-goal free kick.

    • The Intel: Shady Side coach Ed Ellsworth noted after facing North Catholic: “North Catholic were the dominant side in the 1st half… it got away from us.” Meanwhile, Belle Vernon coach Tyler Caterino felt his squad was disrespected by their No. 10 seed after just one loss all year—and the Leopards are backing it up on the pitch.
