RIVERHOUNDS 1 NY RED BULL II 1 (HALF)
Goals:
NYRBII – (OWN GOAL)
PGH – Vincent – (5th) Assist from Kerr (3rd)
It was a nightmare start for Fejiro Okiomah and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
Just a few minutes into their contest against the NY Red Bull II at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ, the Riverhounds defender, making the start after sitting out the previous week, came sliding into the box to clear a ball away on a dangerous Red Bull pass into the box. Okiomah instead sent the ball zipping past his own keeper Ryan Thompson to give the home team a quick 1-0 advantage.
However, when the Riverhounds need a response this year, it’s come from the partnership of Kevin Kerr and Rob Vincent. In the 9th minute, Kerr sent a bending cross from the right side to an unmarked Vincent, who volleyed home the equalizer past Red Bull goalkeeper Castano.
The goal puts Vincent in the team lead with five goals for the season.
Matt Dallman, only making his second start this season, had a few giveaways in the defensive third and he’s also was booked for a yellow card in the 30th minute, after a foul right on the edge of the box. Fortunately for the Riverhounds, trouble was averted, as the free kick from the 18, went low and into the wall.
Vincent had another decent chance in the 38th minute, letting loose a shot from about 20 yards out that sailed wide right.
Head coach, Mark Steffens penciled in the following starting line up for the Riverhounds: Thompson (GK), Anthony Arena, Okiomah, Dallman, Willie Hunt, Stephen Okai, Danny Earls, Vincent, Kerr, Mike Green and Vini Dantas.
Okiomah was injured and replaced by Tyler Pasher in the 40th minute. Pasher was put on the left wing — and Vincent moved into a holding midfield role for the remainder of the half.
