Point Park Women Open Season With Road Draw

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – Point Park University women’s soccer opened its season with a 1-1 tie in double overtime at Shawnee State University yesterday. 
Shawnee State (0-0-1) scored first in the 11th minute of the game off an unassisted goal by Destiny Chester.
 
Point Park (0-0-1, 0-0 RSC) answered with an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute by Doreen Clark, a freshman midfielder from Mount Jackson, Pa. and Mohawk High School.
 
The game remained deadlocked for 87 minutes before ending in a 1-1 tie.
 
Freshmen Alexa Dunn (Girard High School) and Morgan Willis (Bridgeport High School) split time in the net for the Pioneers. Dunn allowed one goal with four saves and Willis stopped seven shots.
 
Point Park out-shot Shawnee State 22 to 17, while the Bears held a 9-2 corner kick advantage. The Pioneers had 16 shots on goal to Shawnee’s 12.
 
Point Park hosts NAIA No. 1-ranked Spring Arbor (Mich.) on Saturday for its home opener scheduled for a 12 p.m. start. A JV match against Spring Arbor will follow the varsity game at 2 p.m.
