RMU women’s soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Saint Francis in match that was delayed due to weather on Thursday afternoon at North Athletic Complex.

With this result, the Colonials drop their overall record to 1-2-1 to start the 2024 season.

The match remained uneventful for the first 20 minutes, with neither side generating offensive opportunities.

Saint Francis capitalized on their first shot on goal, scoring in the 21st minute. A well-placed corner kick by Tomke Dziesiaty found Lauren Pyle, who headed the ball into the net to give the Red Flash a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, RMU defender Jillian Marvin received a caution.

The second half saw both teams creating chances, but neither could break through initially.

Following a weather delay, the Colonials increased their attacking pressure in the final 12 minutes of the match, pushing numbers forward.

RMU captains Paloma Swankler and Haleigh Finale each had shots on target, but Saint Francis goalkeeper Emma Sawich made crucial saves.

With just over a minute left, RMU’s Ava Trethewey had the Colonials’ best opportunity to equalize, but Sawich denied her shot aimed at the top right corner.

Despite the loss, RMU outshot Saint Francis 13-6, with six of their attempts on target compared to the Red Flash’s two. The Colonials also earned three corner kicks, while Saint Francis managed just one. Defenders Jillian Marvin and Emerson Johngarlo, along with Haleigh Finale, played the full 90 minutes.
