Sarah Schupansky’s playmaking sparks Pitt women’s soccer to 6-1 win vs Dartmouth

Match Stats 

Following a scoreless first half, Pitt women’s soccer team, led by senior Sarah Schupansky’s one goal, three assist performance, exploded for a six-goal second half, beating Dartmouth, 6-1, at Ambrose Urbanic Field on Thursday evening.

The Panthers dominated play for 90 minutes, despite a 19-2 shots edge in the first half, they didn’t break through until the 53rd minute, when Keera Melonhorst volleyed a ball in from the left side from Schupansky.

But only moments before the Panthers wew in danger of surrendering the first goal of the match, but goalkeeper Ellie Breech came thru with a massive penalty kick save.

From that point on, the rout was on.

Panthers getting into the second half scoring barrage included Keera Melonhorst, Samiah Phiri, Olivia Lee, Ava Boyd, Schupansky and Magali Gagne.

In the midst of Pitt’s goal fest, as things were opening up, Dartmouth’s Hailey Rorick scored to cut the lead to 3-1 in the 66th minute.

Schupansky added assists on Phiri and Lee’s goals to bring her assist totals to nine through seven matches played this season.  At the start of the week, Schupansky was tied with four others for the NCAA Division I lead in assists.

With the win, the Panthers improve to 5-1-1 overall.

Next up, Pitt will host Mercyhurst on Sunday (1 p.m. kickoff) at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
