Only a few section matches in the WPIAL boys soccer schedule on Saturday, with the rest of the slate being non-conference clashes.

Among the matches include:

It will be a very good test for both North Catholic and Burrell as they’re new section foes.  Burrell (2-1-0 | 2-1-0 in section) started off strong with back-to-back section wins, but dropped a tough one to Shady Side Academy this week, while North Catholic (3-2-0 overall | 2-1 in section), dropping down from Class 3A last year, has played a very tough non-conference schedule thus far, losing to 4A North Allegheny but beating another 4A school, Central Catholic. After losing their section opener to Deer Lakes (1-0), they’ve bounced back nicely with strong wins vs Highlands and Freeport.

Class 4A Fox Chapel taking on their neighbors, Class 2A Shady Side Academy — both Ed Ellworth and Erik Ingram have strong squads entering the 2024 season and this match up offers a chance for two school that have many players who know each other very well to play for bragging rights along Fox Chapel Road.  The Foxes are off to a 2-2-1 overall start (1-0-0 start in section thanks to 2-0 win vs Pine-Richland).  Shady Side were pushed to a wild draw vs Freeport, but defeated section rival Deer Lakes, 2-1 in extra time.   The Foxes dropped their non-conference match to Deer Lakes.  FC will not have all-state forward Pablo Linzoain, signed an academy contract with Pittsburgh Riverhounds, and is available as the 19th player for tonight’s home match vs Rhode Island.  The Foxes have standout midfielder Milo Chiu back to a talented roster.
