Instant Match Summary

Robert Morris men’s soccer team’s magic run came to end, as the Colonials conceded a pair of brilliant strikes delivered by Big 10 runner-up, Michigan, losing 2-0, in the First Round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament in Ann Arbor on Thursday night.

Matthew Fisher and Duilio Herrera each scored net smashing goals from distance, one coming in the 12th minute, then the other in the 80th minute to end Robert Morris’ terrific season.  Goalkeeper Josh Lane made two saves, while Michigan’s Isaiah Goldson did make four stops.

With the result, Robert Morris, who won their first-ever Horizon League Championship, finish the season with a 9-7-3 mark.

Michigan will now move on to the tournament’s second round, where they’ll face Atlantic 10 Champions, Dayton, on Sunday.

Look for a more detailed recap to follow and we’ll also be looking to get reaction from RMU’s Head Coach Jonathan Potter.

Match Updates

2nd half

80′ — GOAL — MICHIGAN 2, ROBERT MORRIS 0

Another Goalazo!!!   This time it’s Duilio Herrera (assist from Murphy Parker).  What an individual effort from Herrera who navigated a few deft touches to evade a few RMU defenders, then lined up a rocket that hit the perfect spot just inside the right post.

78′ — very solid strike from RMU Victor Koah from pretty far out — about 30 yards.  It’s deflected — forcing UM keeper  Goldson to quickly adjust then grab the ball going a bit to his right.

76′ — few shots on goal for RMU in past few minutes but each didn’t have much pop from behind the 18, as they start to the use the width a bit more.

71′ — RMU high press has created some turnovers but they’re not transitioning quick enough to create quality chances. Been a little sloppy on both side in middle of field but Michigan def with more possession

57′ — Save!! RMU’s Josh Lane comes up with a big stop to deny a deflected ball headed his way.  Will Baker had the redirect.

The Colonials are right in this match — but will have to convert on their chances.

Michigan came out and found a way to score. A brilliant strike by Matthew Fisher (see replay below) was perfectly placed and nothing RMU keeper Josh Lane could have done about it.
