FINAL:  Riverhounds 2, Detroit City FC 0

The combination of Robbie Mertz and Perrin Barnes delivered in a big way, as each player scored a goal and assisted on each other’s first goal of the season to lead the way in a convincing 2-0 win for Pittsburgh.

The Hounds held Detroit to one shot all night to earn their second consecutive clean sheet win and their fifth shutout of the season.

FINAL: Steel City FC (Men) 4, Erie Sports Center 0 (at Founders Field) USL League Two

With the win, Steel City FC improve to 4-1-1, good for first place in USL League Two’s Great Forest Division.

Previewing the Weekend of Pittsburgh Soccer

The Riverhounds are home for the second week in a row, as they get back to league play, when hosting Detroit City FC (Saturday, 7 p.m.)

Both the Riverhounds and Riveters (who play FC Buffalo on Sunday) are encouraging fans to come wearing white for this weekend’s matches.

PSN’s John Krysinsky took a deep dive and closer look at the Hounds scoring woes thus far this season in his latest analysis piece, but assures that this team is capable of turning things up a notch as the players and coaches turn the page to June with plenty of confidence.

Analysis: Confident Riverhounds can overcome another scarce early season goal output

Meanwhile, at Founder Field on Saturday, Steel City FC’s men’s and women’s teams, in their first seasons, respectively, in USL League Two and USL W-League, will be hosting a doubleheader (Men at 3 p.m., Women’s at 6 p.m.) as part of the organization’s annual Awards Day.

Steel City FC’s men’s Head Coach Dan Brower told Pittsburgh Soccer Now earlier this week that 11 players on the currentd first team squad are currently in the Steel City Academy or are products of the Academy.

“Our Academy’s importance to our First Team setup goes far beyond simply providing our young talent a pathway to USL League Two and “next level” football — it’s a cultural pillar of the club,” Brower stated.

“We are all a part of something special here at the club. Steel City FC is a unique and highly ambitious club – always willing to challenge the status quo. These genuine selections remind everyone that First Team opportunities are real. If you’re good enough, you’re old enough.”

In addition, Beadling SC’s women’s squad is in the hunt for its first win of the campaign, as they face Corktown WFC in Detroit (3 p.m. kickoff).
