Instant Recap
On a perfect, sunny, summer evening with a relatively early 5 PM kickoff, the action on the field did not match the beauty of the scene as the Riverhounds and Tampa Bay Rowdies battled to what could only be described as an ugly draw that included head coach Rob Vincent’s first career ejection as the Hounds leading man.
The Hounds would open the evening with the first real chance of the game. After receiving a ball to his feet at the top of the box, just to the right of goal, Eliot Goldthorp made an excellent cut-back move to free himself into all the space in the world. He had plenty of time to curl his left-footed effort towards the far corner, but unfortunately there was a Rowdies defender’s head directly in its path to prevent the opener.
Despite the early Hounds chance, the Rowdies would dominate the attacking opportunities in the first half. A series of corners would largely be stymied by a strong Hounds defensive performance. The best chance for the vistors would come from an ambitious shot from Marco Micaletto, but his 25-yard effort would be a few feet wide of the right upright despite the diving effort from Nico Campuzano in net.
The Hounds would threaten once more before the break. Goldthorp – easily the Hounds danger man on the day as with most games this year – would again cut himself into space along the right endline. The space enabled him to fire a rocket of a cross towards the back post that was unfortunately a foot above the head of Charles Ahl.
The hosts would have another near chance quickly in the second half. This time a Hounds corner would be the impetus, with Sam Bassett taking it to the near post. Trevor Amann was there to meet it and, though the crowd initially roared a cheer, it unluckily buried into the side netting.
The most dramatic event of the second half was only tangentially-related to the on-field action. After a clearance from the Hounds defensive third, Trevor Amann was brutally shoved into the near-side boards, but no whistle was forthcoming. Hounds coach Rob Vincent was irate at the lack of a call from the referee, and his arguments quickly earned him a pair of yellow cards and an early walk to the locker room.
The last good chance of the game came the Rowdies direction, as former Hound Russell Cicerone found himself a bit of free space on the left side of goal inside the 18-yard box. He managed to rip a solid shot towards the upper-left corner, but luckily for the hosts, a foot wide.
After a sloppy extra time of rapid-break attacks, the final whistle would blow to lock in the scoreless result. Each side remains among the top-half of Eastern Conference teams, but the Rowdies will surely be a bit happier given their already-secure position.

58′ – Rowdies sub. Micaletto comes off and is replaced by Pedro Dolabella.
53′ – Corner for the Hounds after the deflected shot attempt. Bassett takes near post and a roar goes up, but Amann’s header is wide and into the side netting, much to their dismay.

43′ – Unforced error there from Jackson Walti as he surrenders an unnecessary corner. Cicerone takes far post and beyond everyone. No harm, no foul.
38′ – An excellent cut back from Goldthorp along the right endline lets him rocket a cross towards the back post, but maybe a foot too high for Charles Ahl.
36′ – A free kick taken by Russell Cicerone from about 30 yards out is absolute chimneys – might have been good from 30 at Acrisure
35′ – An ambitious effort from Micaletto from about 25-yards goes well wide of the right upright – not that it stopped Nico from a healthy dive in net!
27′ – A yellow issued to Tampa’s Max Schneider as he cuts down Sam Bassett on the break.
22′ – Another corner for the Rowdies as the pressure builds. Cicerone to take again. And again cleared by the Hounds defense. Solid at the back despite the consistent push from the Rowdies.
14′ – Another Tampa corner as a contested ball in the box is ruled to have come off the Hounds. Cicerone to take for the Rowdies. Robbie Mertz is taken down by a screen in the melee and the ref’s whistle favors the Hounds this time.
12′ – Hounds free kick swung in by Charles Ahl from the left wing, and Owen Mikoy is taken down in the box, but no call from the referee and the Rowdies clear.
8′ – Free kick for Tampa in an attacking position in the left-central channel, about 30 yards from goal. Micaletto to swing it inwards to the box. It’s headed goalwards by Nate Dossantos, and saved and held by Campuzano.
6′ – Corner for the Rowdies off the errant clearance. Taken by former Hound Russell Cicerone, but headed away clear by Owen Mikoy to safety.
4′ – A great chance for Goldthorp from the top of the box as he manages to cut himself back into a lot of space, but his curled effort is headed away by a defender before it can reach the Tampa net. Good chance there missed by the Hounds.
1′ – An opening attacking sequence for the Hounds is cleverly put together, but the eventual cross from the right wing off the foot of Goldthorp is well wide of the mark and out for a Tampa goal kick.
1′ – And we’re off at FNB Stadium! Hounds in their black and yellow hypocycloid kits, Rowdies in their classic green and yellows. A top-tier battle in the Eastern Conference is underway!
0′ – It’s an absolutely gorgeous day at FNB Stadium. Wispy clouds, bright sun, low-80s temperatures, and the best view in U.S. Soccer across the river. The Hounds have a big one in this early evening kickoff, taking on the Eastern Conference-leading Tampa Bay Rowdies with a chance to really firm up their title-contender credentials and top-half of the playoffs standing.
