From Duquesne University Athletic Department report
Duquesne University men’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Saint Louis Saturday in St. Louis, Mo., at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
The Dukes slipped to 7-2-1 (.750) overall during the 2024 season, including 2-1 (.667) in Atlantic 10 play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Billikens grabbed the first goal of the contest in the 22nd minute, as a header from Luis Lara off a corner kick from Gershon Henry staked Saint Louis to an early 1-0 advantage. It marked the fifth marker of the year for Lara. SLU added two more goals in the second half, including another on a header, this one from freshman Jackson Delkus. Brogan Townsend found Seth Anderson in the corner, who lifted a cross into the box, with Delkus capitalizing in picking up his first career goal for the Billikens. Nate Ward capped the scoring at 61:00, taking another feed from Anderson before finding the back of the net.
SLU (4-2-4 | 2-0-1 Atlantic 10) entered Saturday’s match with one of the stingiest defenses in the Atlantic 10, and it was on display against the Dukes. Duquesne mustered just one shot in the contest, which came less than 10 minutes into the match.
On a corner kick, senior Christoffer Vie Angell was able to get a shot on goal in the 81st minute, with Saint Louis coming up with a team save.
SLU has yielded just six goals in 10 games so far this season, a scoring defense of 0.60. More impressively, the Saint Louis defense has allowed just 17 shots this year. The Billikens concluded Saturday’s win with a 20-1 advantage in shots, including 8-1 in shots on goal, while also owning an 8-3 cushion in corner kicks.
