What a weekend for regional adult amateur soccer!

It’s been very nice to see that the Greater Pittsburgh Soccer League (GPSL) championship matches are being played at Pittsburgh Soccer Mecca, at F.N.B. Stadium.

Huge congratulations to all four division winners who lifted silverware on the big stage:

• Premier Division: Tartan Devils FC def. Plum (2-2 draw, 3-0 in PK shootout) — Be sure to check out PSN’s Kevin Hutchinson’s full match report and postgame video reactions from both sides!

• Championship Division: Lebo Lions def. Not Pick Up Soccer, 1-0

• Open Miners Division: Dukes of Hazard def. Gheny FC, 1-0

College Women’s DI Openers: Navigating Transition, Roster Limits & Big Expectations

Women’s Division I college soccer gets underway this Wednesday, and all three local programs—Pitt, Duquesne, and Robert Morris—are entering the 2026 campaign amidst a rapidly changing NCAA landscape.

From the welcome addition of two full weeks of preseason training to the challenges of new 28-player roster limits, the transfer portal, and NIL dynamics, head coaches across the region are adapting to a new era while competing in grueling conferences.

Look out for comprehensive, written season preview features dropping across PSN this week for all three programs, including insights from Rachael Palmer—who visited Pitt training on Monday and is doubling up as Pitt’s broadcast color analyst while aiding our coverage this fall—alongside Zac Weiss’s deep dive into Duquesne and John Krysinsky’s RMU preview.

Plus — interview segments with coaches and players have been regularly dropping on PSN’s social media platforms, especially on our Instagram app.

• Pitt Panthers: Head coach Ben Waldrum enters Year Two of his tenure with high expectations. Waldrum has touted the depth and technical ability of his incoming recruiting class. Speaking with PSN’s Kevin Hutchinson, Pitt’s senior captains noted that training intensity, technical speed, and internal competition have surged to another level with the influx of fresh talent. Look forward to Wednesday’s opener against a Youngstown State squad that will feature numerous Western PA talent (Leah Weiland, Keira Mehalko, Sara Felder, Nicole Brown, Ava Yurko, Quinn Miller, Mia Daramo and Kendelyn Umbel) and will be one of Robert Morris’ key rivals in Horizon League.

• Duquesne Dukes: Entering Year 2 on the Bluff, head coach Jessica Giegucz continues to imprint her tactical identity on the program. The Dukes are adjusting to life following the graduation of a decorated senior class—including standout Maya Matesa, who has since turned professional in Greece.

• Robert Morris Colonials: In an interesting twist of local tenure, RMU head coach Michelle Rick is the youngest of the trio yet the most tenured, entering her third season in Moon Township. Rick looks to build on the Colonials’ competitive culture in Horizon League play.

National Spotlight: Hailey Longwell Named to MAC Hermann Watch List

In national college news, former Moon Area standout, Beadling SC alumna, and 2022 Moe Rosensteel Award winner Hailey Longwell was named to the 2026 Preseason MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for forwards.

Longwell, coming off a standout CAA Attacking Player of the Year campaign at UNCW (and former Duquesne standout), stands as the lone player with deep Western PA roots recognized on the watch list for college soccer’s most prestigious individual award. Introducing ‘College Soccer Central’ & Expanded PSN Coverage

• College Soccer Central Debut: PSN Managing Editor John Krysinsky launches College Soccer Central, a weekly show airing every Tuesday on the Pittsburgh Soccer Now YouTube Channel. The show will break down weekend results, preview upcoming fixtures, and feature special guest interviews with local players and coaches. (Note: This week’s episode kicked off a bit early due to the season openers and out of precaution due to an impending dental procedure on Monday!)

• Beat Coverage: We are thrilled to welcome Zac Weiss back to the beat, leading coverage for Duquesne Men’s and Women’s Soccer. PSN will also feature complete match reports, features, and site coverage for Pitt (MSOC/WSOC) and Robert Morris (MSOC/WSOC) throughout the autumn, including on-site presence at a number of their home matches.

High School Soccer: Preseason Countdown & JRK Memorial Classic

WPIAL high school preseason training is less than a week away! Monday, August 17 will mark the official start to High School soccer season.

PSN will feature a weekly High School Soccer Notebook, feature stories, and the return of the Kids on the Pitch Podcast, featuring interviews with WPIAL players, coaches, and local analysts.

We are also excited to announce that Pittsburgh Soccer Now will once again serve as a media partner for the JRK Memorial Classic, hosted by Pine-Richland High School from August 28–30.

The three-day, 12-team showcase will feature premier WPIAL boys’ programs taking on top-tier regional competition from outside the area, as well as prep powerhouse The Kiski School.

Riverhounds SC: Old Guard Shield Battle vs. Charleston Battery

On the professional front, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC continue their second-half playoff push and top-of-the-table pursuit under head coach Rob Vincent.

This Saturday night, the Hounds host rival Charleston Battery in a massive Old Guard Shield showdown at F.N.B. Stadium. Sitting in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, coming off Saturday’s hard-fought nil-nil draw vs Sacramento, Vincent’s squad knows their best soccer may still lie ahead—particularly as they look to turn generated build-up into sharper execution in the final third.
