A bounce-back week with signature victories has catapulted Pitt men’s soccer right back into the national spotlight.
Following a 2-0 shutout over then-ranked Cornell and a gritty 2-1 road win at Cal to deliver head coach Jay Vidovich his 100th victory in Oakland, the Panthers (5-2-1, 1-1-0 ACC) officially re-entered both major national polls on Tuesday. Pitt checks in at No. 20 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and No. 22 in TopDrawerSoccer.
Even more impressive is the committee’s metric view of the Panthers: the NCAA released its initial Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) of the 2026 season, placing Pitt at No. 7 nationally.
Pitt’s high RPI debut reflects one of the most demanding non-conference and early-season slates in Division I soccer. Jay Vidovich’s side has already battled three programs currently sitting inside the national top 11:

Despite going 0-2-1 across that stretch, the sheer quality of opponent—combined with taking 6 out of 6 points against Cornell and Cal—gave the Panthers the mathematical boost needed to crash the top 10 in RPI.
Looming next? On Friday, it will be a clash of ranked ACC rivals when No. 16 Louisville visits Ambrose Urbanic Field.
With ACC competition heating up, plus non-conference opponents that include (current unbeaten cross-town rivals) Duquesne and No. 5 Georgetown.
