A first-half strike from distance proved to be the difference maker as Milwaukee handed the Robert Morris University men’s soccer team a 1-0 defeat in Horizon League action at the North Athletic Complex.

With the loss, the Colonials move to 4-4-3 overall and 1-1-2 in conference play.

FIRST HALF

Offense came at a premium during a defensive opening stretch, with the two sides combining for just three shots through the first 25 minutes.

The match shifted in the 32nd minute when Milwaukee substitute Jack Bretzmann capitalized on a volley from distance, netting the opening and ultimate game-winning goal just five minutes after stepping onto the pitch.

RMU created late opportunities to draw level before the break but attempts from Giovanni Dennis and Callum Doyle-Travers couldn’t find the back of the net.
 
SECOND HALF

The Panthers maintained their disciplined defensive shape throughout the final 45 minutes, limiting the Colonials to minimal clean chances.

RMU’s best opportunity to equalize came in the 60th minute when John Krug put a shot on goal, but Milwaukee’s defense turned the effort away to preserve the clean sheet.

The Colonials return to action on Wednesday, October 7, when they travel to face IU Indy in conference action. Kickoff will be at 3:00 PM with the game streaming on ESPN+.

 

Match Notes

For the match, Milwaukee held an 8-5 advantage in total shots, though both teams finished even with two shots on goal apiece. The physical contest featured 26 combined fouls—15 against Milwaukee and 11 against RMU—with each squad issued two yellow cards. The Panthers earned five corner kick opportunities while the Colonials had two. Senior goalkeeper Josh Lane turned away one shot in net for RMU.
