Robert Morris women’s soccer drop first league match at Detroit Mercy, 2-1

Two second-half goals by Detroit Mercy handed the RMU women’s soccer team their first Horizon League loss of the season, as the Colonials fell 2-1.

RMU now stands at 2-4-3 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The first half ended scoreless, with RMU holding an 8-4 shot advantage.

Paloma Swankler and Taylor Day both came close to scoring, each hitting the post.

Detroit Mercy came out strong, earning two corner kicks early in the second half.

In the 49th minute, Jen Mateyak scored her first career goal, heading in a corner to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.

Mateyak received a yellow card in the 63rd minute after fouling an RMU player in the box, leading to a Colonial penalty kick.

Graduate forward Haleigh Finale converted the penalty, placing it into the right side of the net to level the score at 1-1.

Detroit Mercy reclaimed the lead in the 76th minute with their second goal and held on to win the match 2-1.

  • Detroit Mercy outshot RMU 15-11, with six of their shots on target compared to five for RMU.
  • The Titans earned seven corner kicks, scoring on one, while the Colonials earned three corners.
