Gotham FC has signed University of Pittsburgh forward Sarah Schupansky on a two-year deal, through the 2026 NWSL season. There is also a club option for the 2027 season.
Schupansky is coming off a collegiate season where she led the entire NCAA with 15 assists. Throughout five seasons with the Pittsburgh Panthers, she scored 32 goals and was the all-time leader in assists with 43. In 2023, she was named to the All-ACC First Team, making her the first-ever Panther to be named to the list.
“We are so excited for Sarah and for Gotham! Watching her develop as a player and more importantly as a person over these past four years at Pitt has been exciting to see,” Panthers head coach Randy Waldrum said to Pittsburgh Soccer Now.
“She has helped transform our team from being an after thought to a nationally respected program. She has clearly, along with her teammates, left a legacy and a standard of excellence for Pitt Women’s Soccer.
“We can’t wait to see what she does in these next steps of her journey! She found a great new home in Gotham and I believe it’s the perfect place for her to learn and grow as a pro!”
I’m truly honored and beyond excited for this opportunity. Thank you to the Gotham organization for believing in me and making a childhood dream come true. I can’t wait to get started and give my all to make Gotham proud! https://t.co/jiS9jbGseJ

Last year, the Panthers saw their first-ever professionals in the National Women’s Soccer League, as Amanda West and Landy Mertz were drafted to the Houston Dash and North Carolina Courage, respectively. West recently re-signed with Houston, while Mertz was waived by the Courage. She has yet to sign with another NWSL club. Schupansky is the third-ever Panther to sign with an NWSL side, as the NWSL College Draft was eliminated in the Players Association CBA.
“I could not be more honored or excited to be joining such an amazing club,” Schupansky said, via a Gotham press release. “2025 is going to be one special year and I can not wait to get started.”
“Sarah is an extremely talented player who is ready to take the next step into the professional game,” Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West said. “She is a versatile player who can play as a midfielder or as a winger. We look forward to having Sarah join the club.”
Gotham FC finished the 2024 regular-season in third place with a 17-5-4 record.
Congratulations to both @GothamFC and @sarahschupansky! So proud of Sarah and all she has accomplished so far! Can’t wait to see her next steps in her journey! https://t.co/lSUEyU5lEt
