Pitt forward Samiah Phiri signs pro contract with FC Nantes of France’s Première Ligue

Pitt forward Samiah Phiri signed a professional contract with FC Nantes team officials announced Tuesday afternoon. The club, which began in 2012 is based in Nantes, France and competes in the Première Ligue.

Phiri finished her stellar three-year career at Pitt ranked fourth with 22 career goals and fifth with 55 career points in 63 matches. She scored a team-high eight goals, including two game-winners, and totaled 19 points in 18 matches as a senior. Phiri recorded the second brace of her career with two second half goals in a 3-1 win over Louisville to open ACC play and had the game-winning goal against Dartmouth.

As a junior, Phiri earned Third Team All-ACC honors while totaling 26 points on 11 goals and four assists. She posted four game-winning goals in helping Pitt to a school record 17 wins and the program’s first NCAA Tournament Elite Eight appearance.

Phiri is the fourth member of the 2024 Pitt Women’s Soccer team to sign a professional contract joining Sarah Schupansky (FC Gotham – NWSL)Deborah Abiodun (Washington Spirit – NWSL), and Chloe Minas (Växjö DFF – Sweden).

He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
