PIAA (WPIAL-District 7) play-in game results

Here are the results of Wednesday’s play-in games from the seven classifications that place three teams from WPIAL (District 7) in the PIAA state soccer playoffs. The two WPIAL finalists plus the play-in winners will begin play in the PIAA playoffs on Tuesday at sites and against opponents to be determined. Girls 2A didn’t have a play-in game, as only the top two teams in that classification will move on to the PIAA playoffs.

WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs: Third-Place Consolation

WPIAL Class 2A Playoffs: Third-Place Consolation
7 pm Central Valley vs.  Beaver Area at Ambridge 2-3
WPIAL Class 1A Playoffs: Third-Place Consolation
8 pm Seton LaSalle vs.  Winchester Thurston at Peters Township 2-0

GIRLS

Time Teams Result
WPIAL Class 4A Playoffs: Third-Place Consolation
6:30 pm Upper St. Clair vs.  North Allegheny at West Allegheny 1-3
WPIAL Class 3A Playoffs: Third-Place Consolation
6 pm South Park vs.  Montour at Moon 3-1
WPIAL Class 1A Playoffs: Third-Place Consolation
6:15 pm Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic vs.  Seton LaSalle at Peters Township 1-0

The only ‘inter-WPIAL’ match up of the first round of PIAA tournament will take place in Class 4A girls — as the winner of the Norwin-Penn Trafford final will have to take on North Allegheny (who won the 3rd place game on Wednesday).  Possibilities of WPIAL teams playing against each other won’t take place in other classifications until the quarterfinal and/or semifinal rounds.
Here’s the schedule for PIAA playoffs by round:

  • First Round: Tuesday, November 7 (Regional Sites)
  • Quarterfinals: Saturday, Novermber 11 (Regional Sites)
  • Semi-Finals: Tuesday, November 14 (Regional Sites)
  • Championships: Friday, November 17 & Saturday, November 18 (Hersheypark Stadium)

He is also author of 'Miracle on the Mon' -- a book about the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, which chronicles the club, particularly the early years of Highmark Stadium with the narrative leading up to and centered around a remarkable match that helped provide a spark for the franchise. John has covered sports for Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, DK Pittsburgh Sports, Pittsburgh Sports Report, has served as color commentator on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC broadcasts, and worked with OPTA Stats and broadcast teams for US Open Cup and International Champions Cup matches held in the US. Krysinsky also served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at his alma mater, Point Park University, where he led the Pioneers to the first-ever winning seasons and playoff berths (1996-98); head coach of North Catholic boys (2007-08), associate head coach of Shady Side Academy boys (2009-2014).
