On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC made it official — announcing the retirement of the club’s most decorated player — Kenardo Forbes.
“It’s been in the making for a couple of years,” Forbes acknowledged.
“I signed a three-year deal. The first two as a player, then the last with an option as player or coach. In the offseason, I don’t think I can give 90 minutes a week, so I didn’t want to be forced to play, taking time away from young guys who could give 90 minutes.”
Forbes holds club records for assists (55) and appearances (226) and earned All-League honors six times from 2018-23.
The veteran, who also holds USL Championship career records for the same two categories, was poised to enter eighth season in Pittsburgh.
When looking back at his career, Forbes acknowledged that while his biggest regret was not winning a USL Championship title in Pittsburgh, he’s very proud of his accomplishments in earning all his accolades and being Head Coach Bob Lilley’s main lieutenant for all eleven of his seasons in the league.
